  1. I’ve been a contractor for nearly 30 years and have done several thousand home inspections over the last 9 years.

    Having a friend who is a contractor look at the house you may want to buy may not be much help. An inspector looks at several hundred things during his inspection that may not be noted by the contractor. A contractor generally specializes in one or two trades and sub-contracts out other portions of a project. An inspector has the experience and on going training to spot the problems and assess the real condition of the items he inspects.
